From Pancakes to Playgrounds

In Honor of the Kiwanis Club of Middletown’s 100th Anniversary

Poem by Ann Veith

Our club, Kiwanis, continues to strive,
To aid local children and help them to thrive.

We’ve followed this path now for one hundred years,
Thanks to committed, superb volunteers.

We help our Communities, help them to climb,
This improving the world, through one child at a time.

We lend our support to events city-wide.
Using “How can we help” as our trustworthy guide.

Our objects include these 4 verbs, and I quote,
“To ENCOURAGE, to GIVE, to PROVIDE, to PROMOTE.”

We’ll add several more before we are through:
“To DEVELOP” and also “COOPERATE” too.

We aim for involvement. We’re known around town.
Our pancakes are fluffy – the lightest, hands down!

Since reading is important and holds a high place,
We feature our Signature Project, our “Book Around Middletown” cart race.

The Salvation Army aids thousands of folks;
We help them through auctions (a fun time with jokes!)

“FORE” all the golfers start shouting
When starting our James Combs Memorial outing!

The Amanda community’s wishes were filled;
They relish the playground we proudly helped build.

We love our Night Out. Every year it’s our main
National Community-building campaign.

Scholarships…Safety Town…Adopt a Class…we can all see
Helping youth is our goal, and indeed, it’s the key.

Eye exam funding and eyewear if needed,
Aktion Club, K-Kids and Key Clubs are calls that we’ve heeded.

Barricade Buckets have been on our list;
We help where we’re needed. On that we insist.

For 40 plus years, we are proud to report,
Butler County 4-H has enjoyed our support.

The 3R Development STEAM Program too…
The list of our projects is lengthy, it’s true.

We rise to the challenges often upon us…
We’re proud we’re a part, and the heart of Kiwanis.

Please come and join us, 2nd and 4th Thursdays at noon…
Everyone is welcome. We hope you’ll come soon!

To our Kiwanis Club of Middletown, we offer 3 CHEERS!
Here’s to our youth AND our next hundred years!

This poem is dedicated to the Loving Memory of Larry and Leticia Curless
